While they were all amazed at his every deed, Jesus said to his disciples, "Pay attention to what I am telling you. The Son of Man is to be handed over to men." But they did not understand this saying; its meaning was hidden from them so that they should not understand it, and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.
REFLECTION
"Pay attention to what I am telling you."
I have been on many great pilgrimages of which the PAPA pilgrimages are the best. The companies that help put the pilgrimages together have excellent drivers, guides and our spiritual advisor plans what we need to see and hear for our spiritual growth. Important information from our tour guide usually is preempted with a loud “Pay attention”. We come to full attention, quiet, stillness, stop what we are doing as we are about to hear important and necessary information.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us to pay attention to Him. He not only is God but He is the only mediator between God the Father and men. He walks with us in this pilgrimage life.
So how can we focus on God today when he says, “Pay attention”?
Best place I have found to find quiet, stillness, simplicity and the right attitude is at Holy Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Only Jesus and me…no iPhone, no social media…. Just the experience of Christ’s nearness.
His desire is to show us the way to a holy life on earth for a perfect life in Heaven. Let’s daily make spiritual progress, not allowing discouragement from our failures but following Him as He guides us.
One of the sites visited in our 2024 pilgrimage was Assisi. Here is a quote from St Francis of Assisi, “We can live the Gospel, we want to live it, and of course, we must live it.”
