Gospel

Mark 6:53-56

After making the crossing to the other side of the sea,

Jesus and his disciples came to land at Gennesaret

and tied up there.

As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him.

They scurried about the surrounding country

and began to bring in the sick on mats

to wherever they heard he was.

Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered,

they laid the sick in the marketplaces

and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak;

and as many as touched it were healed.

Reflection

In the Gospel the people of Gennesaret recognized Jesus and ran to Him with such trust. They believed that even the smallest contact, just touching the tassel of His cloak, would be enough to bring them healing. Their faith is humble yet bold; they know who He is, they believe in His power, and they reach out to Him.

This Gospel invites us to that same kind of faith. We often wait for perfect conditions or dramatic signs before trusting God to act. Yet the villagers remind us that grace can be found in the smallest gestures of trust. When we reach out to Jesus, however weak or desperate we may feel, He meets us there. Even the simplest act of faith opens the door for Him to work in our lives.
