A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mt 13:31-35
Jesus proposed a parable to the crowds. “The Kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a person took and sowed in a field. It is the smallest of all the seeds, yet when full-grown it is the largest of plants. It becomes a large bush, and the birds of the sky come and dwell in its branches.” He spoke to them another parable. “The Kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed with three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch was leavened.” All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables. He spoke to them only in parables, to fulfill what had been said through the prophet: I will open my mouth in parables, I will announce what has lain hidden from the foundation of the world.
REFLECTION
"birds of the sky come and dwell in its branches.”
Though the names of Mary‘s parents are not mentioned in the Bible, we know by tradition that they were Saints Joachim and Anne.
From the beginning they were the most blessed. Not only were they to love her but they had, as all parents, the awesome responsibility of raising and caring for their child, Mary, in their own home.
Like the mustard seed that grows into a large bush: a home, shade and repose for many, Mary grew, with the proper spiritual nourishment, to be the Mother of Jesus and all humanity.
Just how did Sts Joachim and Anne raise Mary and in a way help raise Jesus? Their example is for even now, year of 2021.
1. Pray for the sanctification of our children and grandchildren.
2. Have profound reverence for God.
3. Be self giving.
4. Speak with kindness.
5. Be patient.
6. Know and understand the scriptures.
7. Pray with your children. 8. Share the faith.
9. Know and live the human virtues.
10. Keep holy the Lord’s day. 11. Offer your children up to God. 12. Use only what you need and share with others. 13. Choose friends wisely.
