A reading of the holy Gospel according to Mk 8:11-13
The Pharisees came forward and began to argue with Jesus, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him.He sighed from the depth of his spirit and said,“Why does this generation seek a sign?Amen, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.”Then he left them, got into the boat again, and went off to the other shore.
REFLECTION
"no sign"
We all have taken tests. Some of us are good test takers, some don't fair too well.
After taking tests, there are times that I feel "dumb". Some tests ask which of these words don't go together or put the words in sequence. In James we read: joy-- trials --faith--perseverance --perfect-- complete--lacking in nothing--ask--wisdom--no doubting--two minds --unstable.
Daily these words get jumbled up in my mind and I wonder where they might be or where I am with them, when I am faced with a dilemma.
God knows exactly where I am in the word puzzle and I leave it up to Him. All I know is that I trust Him and with faith I live each day.
Faith beats out doubt because I have gotten to know God. Yet, I ask for more faith as I have doubts. And He knows me better than myself.
On my own, I sure do feel "dumb" at times. But with God, I have the confidence in the Father who loves me. And when I am lacking in worshipping Him, petitioning Him or thanking Him, He will send me reminders throughout the day what needs to be done. I really don't need any "signs" of His love for He has been so kind to me.
"Be kind to me, Lord, and I shall live."
Today is St Valentines Day but the memorial is for Saints Cyril and Methodius. Please click above and learn a little about these saints who persevered in their evangelical work working with the Slavic people.
