Gospel

The Pharisees came forward and began to argue with Jesus, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him. He sighed from the depth of his spirit and said, "Why does this generation seek a sign? Amen, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation." Then he left them, got into the boat again, and went off to the other shore.

REFLECTION

"Why does this generation seek a sign?

The Pharisees demanded a sign. Many of us grow impatient with God and we, too, demand a sign or perhaps we start to barter with God. "I promise to do this if you do this" making our prayer a bargaining tool.

Today's readings emphasize that we do not test God. In trials our faith will be tested, but keep in mind that "Faith is a readiness to take Christ at His Word and to follow Him". (Magnificat February 16, 2026) When our faith is tested we grow in perseverance. Then we can ask God to be kind to us for He is good and bountiful and we shall live.

God Bless You
