"When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead." (Rev. 1: 17)

As Christians we strive to have a close, even personal, relationship with Jesus; however, in this life we are incapable of fully grasping the awesomeness of God! Consider how John reacted when he encountered Jesus in his full splendor: John, was a close Apostle of Jesus, privileged to be "the disciple whom he [Jesus] loved" (Jn 19: 26), and who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus all his adult life; but now, an old man exiled on the island of Patmos on account of his preaching; yet even so, when he encountered Jesus in his full splendor, writes, "when I saw him, I fell at his feet 'as though dead'”!

When we call on the name Jesus - the name above all names - when we who are Catholic Christians approach him in Holy Communion, we must do so in awe and with great reverence! Yes He calls us friends, and so we are; but he is God, and we must never forget that when we see Jesus, as John did in His full majesty, we too will fall at His feet 'as though dead'!!!
