"O LORD, my heart is not lifted up, my eyes are not raised too high;
I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a child quieted at its mother's breast; like a child that is quieted is my soul."
(Ps. 131: 1-2)
For me 2025 began with the loss of two family members I loved dearly, the hospitalization of two other family members, and other trying events. But I'm not alone in experiencing pain beyond my control. However, I'm encouraged by precious memories when my children were infants; when they experienced hunger, it was enough to disturb their tiny world, however, their mother - my beloved Theresa - quickly responded to their cry. The quieting effect was miraculous!!The baby's eyes rolled back in total contentment and security. Notice here that the psalmist makes a deliberate choice to rest secure in Our Father's love,
"But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a child quieted at its mother's breast; like a child that is quieted is my soul."
