Wedding Feast of Cana

A reading of the holy Gospel according to Jn 2:1-11

REFLECTION

"Do whatever he tells you."

When we were young, we had a strong desire for independence. At least I did; constantly going here and there, driven by passions and disordered desires. Selfishness and poor decision making were my guides.

As I began to understand better the relationship God wishes to have with me, full abandonment to His will was a hard concept to follow and accept. But as one grows in maturity in faith, we grow from independence to dependence on Him.

Prayer is the key to God's heart. Prayer is conversation with God. As we grow in Him, we grow in love.

St John tells us in the reading of the day, that "We have this confidence in God, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, we know that what we have asked him for is ours."

But what happens to our faith when we have not asked for anything, living life well, happy, no worries and something bad happens? How do you deal with this? Mother Mary shows us how, doesn't she? She knew before anyone else knew that there was a problem at the wedding feast of Cana.

She encouraged the staff by saying, "Do whatever he tells you." That is a beautiful command of love, a perfect and ongoing guidance by our Mother. She offers us a new direction in life, to follow her Son. Her voice should be louder than the varied confusing echoes resounding in our minds from the world.

Hearing His voice can be hard and difficult. Shhh, can you not hear His voice in the silence of prayer? Spend time with the Lord. Mass is the ultimate conversation with Him. Mary is silent but always in His presence. Always watching, ready to help when needed.

God Bless You.
