REFLECTION
Our Lady appeared in 1917 to three shepherd children, Lucia dos Santos, her cousins Jacinta and Francisco Marto near Fatima in Portugal. The visions occurred monthly on the thirteenth from May to October.
God was calling His people back to Him . He sent His Mother.
Our Lady came there to warn of what would happen to us as a result of our sins: wars, famines, plagues, persecution of the Church and the loss of many souls in Hell. God, in His great mercy, wished to save us from these miseries through the Immaculate Heart of His Mother.
We see the mercy of God in the Fatima apparitions. God wishes to have mercy on the whole world. He forewarns us of evils which will affect us, by our own fault, if we do not return to Him. He gives us His Mother to help us and guide us.
Mary asked the children to pray the rosary for world peace, for the end of World War I, for sinners, and for the conversion of Russia. Three secrets were revealed: (1) There should be devotion to the Blessed Mary, (2) Hell is real. There was a revelation of Hitler and World War II and fiery red blood sky that covered the whole of Europe. This was later referred to by scientists as the "Aurora Borealis". A month later Hitler began the take over of many nations. Over 60 million people were killed in WWII. (3) “Bishop in white” was shot by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows into him.
On the last apparition, the "Miracle of the Sun" (the dancing of the sun) occurred and was witnessed by over 70,000 people. The three children also saw St Joseph in the sky holding the Child Jesus, with Christ blessing the whole world. The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared over the holm oak and told Lucia she wanted a chapel built there. She said she was the "Lady of the Rosary" and urged all to pray it daily.
Respond to Our Lady's messages, live by fulfilling the requests of Our Lady of Fatima: keep God's Commandments, repent of our sins to attain a genuine and lasting peace, make the Five First Saturdays* for the conversion of Russia, wear the Brown Scapular as a sign of our consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and pray the Holy Rosary (all 20 mysteries) every day!
The last surviving visionary, Servant of God Sister Lucia dos Santos of Fatima, passed away on February 13, 2005.
