Jesus said to his disciples: "You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brothers and sisters only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same? So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect."
REFLECTION:
"So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect."
God orders us to be careful and observe His Commandments with all our hearts.
The commandments cannot be only in our minds, but in the “tablets of our hearts”, going as far as to “bind them around your neck” (Proverbs 3:13)
God is gracious, merciful, compassionate and kind. Our Creator loves us and asks us to trust Him, but most importantly to love our enemies as He loves us, loves them.
The goal is to “be perfect, just as your Heavenly Father is perfect.” For some of us, it’s a lifetime to accomplish. But it cannot be done alone. Be open to and experience the transforming power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:2)
Thanking God for His everlasting love and patience.
Behold, now is a very acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
