Gospel
Jn 7:40-53
Some in the crowd who heard these words of Jesus said,
"This is truly the Prophet."
Others said, "This is the Christ."
But others said, "The Christ will not come from Galilee, will he?
Does not Scripture say that the Christ will be of David's family
and come from Bethlehem, the village where David lived?"
So a division occurred in the crowd because of him.
Some of them even wanted to arrest him,
but no one laid hands on him.
So the guards went to the chief priests and Pharisees,
who asked them, "Why did you not bring him?"
The guards answered, "Never before has anyone spoken like this man."
So the Pharisees answered them, "Have you also been deceived?
Have any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in him?
But this crowd, which does not know the law, is accursed."
Nicodemus, one of their members who had come to him earlier, said to them,
"Does our law condemn a man before it first hears him
and finds out what he is doing?"
They answered and said to him,
"You are not from Galilee also, are you?
Look and see that no prophet arises from Galilee."
Then each went to his own house.
REFLECTION
"Does our law condemn a man before it first hears him
and finds out what he is doing?"
Who speaks for the Nascent babies? For the baby about to be born? The defenseless one who cries, kicks, sucks, feels pain and is growing through the nourishment of his mother while in the womb? Who speaks up for their impending death, judged to be not wanted, thrown away, of no importance, or worse, considered not human?
Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are in the United States of Declaration of Independence. They are not found in the Constitution but they are the cornerstone or the principles of which The Constitution was written.
Abortion ends the life of a human in the womb. Is this morally permissible? Unjust and unfair? Does the nascent baby have a right not to be killed? We have laws protecting life but the laws may be there for the more powerful and not the weak or the voiceless.
Can the nascent baby be condemned without speaking for himself? The nascent is a human being from the time of conception. He has a DNA, and a body distinct and unique from his parents. Growing by reproducing cells, he has all the body functions of a human being. In fact, his parents, who can only create another human, created him. Is that not so?
Nicodemus, a Pharisee, called for judicial process before the other Pharisees came to an opinion to condemn Jesus. There remains much to learn about ourselves if we don't speak up about life and for the life given to us by God.
The nascent human being has human rights and the law should protect them from harm.
We need to be the voice of the voiceless, whether at the beginning of their life, or at the end stage of life.
Remember all things are possible for God. We will continue to pray for the end of abortion and the conversion of those participating in abortions.
May they see each and every human life a reflection of the glory of God Himself.
