Children were brought to Jesus that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked them, but Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these. ”After he placed his hands on them, he went away.
REFLECTION
“Let the children come to me....
Children feel comfortable around grandmothers. They have a bond with grandma. Perhaps this bond is linked to the cookies, games, toys, or the snuggly lap when it is naptime. Maybe the kisses when they are hurt. Or the wonderful stories read to them at bedtime, with a great deal of animation. But most important in the innocent simple prayers of a child spoken to God.
It is our duty to teach them the rules to be followed but also about the full meaning of life; about God, the source of all goodness. As St Francis of Assisi said, “Without prayer you can never hope to find good fruit in a soul”. Teach them about the priesthood and how the priests bring Jesus to us.
Jesus calls out to us. We call out to the children to come and listen to Jesus. We are so fortunate in the Catholic church for the many programs for the youth, CCE teachers preparing the children to be active members of the community, the sacraments that open up a world of spiritual growth and grace.
Encourage parents to bring their children to Church, as a family. Be prepared to have an encounter with the incarnate God and His Mother. Let Him show your children what true love is.
