SATURDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME JANUARY 22, 2022
DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE LEGAL PROTECTION OF UNBORN CHILDREN
On January 22, 1973, the United States Supreme Court issued one of its most momentous, wrong and worst decisions. In Roe vs Wade, they ruled that a Texas statute criminalizing abortion in most cases violated a woman's constitutional right of privacy. It was a 7-2 decision. Since that decision there have been over 63 million abortions.
The Court ruled that the Constitution of the United States protects a pregnant woman's liberty to choose to have an abortion without excessive government restriction. They ignored the higher law of God and the Constitution when they ruled that preborn human beings did not have the equal protection of the laws.
As of January 2022, Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Samuel Alito, Sonia Sotomayor, Clarence Thomas, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett are Catholic. Justices Stephen Breyer and Elena Kagan are Jewish. Justice Neil Gorsuch was raised Catholic but is now a Protestant.
The current President of the United States, Joe Biden, is also a Catholic. Unfortunately he is the most pro abortion president we have had. President Trump was the most prolife president.
According to 2021 survey by Pew Research Center, 59% of Americansbelieve that abortion should be legal in "all or most cases", while 39% of Americans believe that abortion should be illegal in "all or most cases".
In the Catechism of the Catholic Church #2270-2275, it says that human life must be respected and protected from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person--among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life. Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion.
So why is abortion still legal? We need to persevere in praying, working for pro life candidates, write letters, donate and work against the laws protecting abortion. The preborn children in the womb are defenseless, nor can they speak up for themselves. This year the Supreme Court will consider reversing Roe vs Wade. Let's not slow down in our fight against abortion.
PAPA prays for priests and we also pray for future priests. Abortion is abhorrent and PAPA works hard for the For Life cause. Prayer for the Unborn: is prayed daily at 3 pm. Please join us.
