When it was evening, the disciples of Jesus went down to the sea, embarked in a boat, and went across the sea to Capernaum. It had already grown dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. The sea was stirred up because a strong wind was blowing. When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they began to be afraid. But he said to them, “It is I. Do not be afraid.” They wanted to take him into the boat, but the boat immediately arrived at the shoreto which they were heading.
REFLECTION
“It is I. Do not be afraid.”
Sometimes, a bad outcome, an illness, failure after heartfelt attempts for accomplishment can remind us how small we really are. The disciples, panicking while they tried to sail the boat in the midst of a storm, remind us of the times when fear and the unknown take over our lives.
And now, after we have tried to do all by ourselves, we don't recognize Jesus during our difficult moments. The heart who is deeply close to the Lord, recognizes Jesus more quickly and becomes more sensitive to recognize His presence. We all have moments when we try our best, work hard, pray and wait and yet it seems to leave us hopeless and fruitless.
Remember, Jesus never abandons us even when we do not recognize Him. He is still present in our life, guides us, and accompanies us. Jesus is with us all the time and in inviting Him into our lives we can place our trust in Him. We can do far more than we could ever imagine. Trust Him to do all He asks of us, even in the darkness of life and emptiness of our soul.
