Gospel
People were bringing children to Jesus that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this he became indignant and said to them, "Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the Kingdom of God like a child will not enter it." Then he embraced the children and blessed them, placing his hands on them.
REFLECTION
"Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the Kingdom of God like a child will not enter it."
On the way home we talked about heaven and imagining what her room would look like. Then we talked about whether our pets would be in heaven. A lovely ride home.
By dinner time she had a meltdown--tired, hungry and having to learn "big" words for her spelling test finally took its toll.
At first glance when reading the above Gospel, my mind took me to being like a child. Beautiful memories of grandkids rushing to meet you, hugs, kisses, wanting to play and spend time with you had me thinking of, "yeah, I will run to hug and kiss Jesus when I see Him". Yet, there are children who are self willed, disobedient, devious, throwing temper tantrums, petulant and hard to put up with when they have a meltdown.
Once I served dinner, brought out her favorite chocolate cake, she was happy, squealing with joy when the rest of the family came home.
Total dependence on someone to care for her, feed her, forgive her, love her and keep her safe is what our relationship with God, our Father, should be. Complete trust and dependence on Him.
But Jesus said that if we don't accept the Kingdom of God like a child we will not enter it.
So what does accepting the Kingdom of God like a child mean? To be a child of God is to trust Him in all things, His guidance and love. Embrace God our Father and follow His instructions. He is compassion and mercy.
We are made in the image of God, our Creator and Father. May everyone we meet see His reflection in us so many will say, “You look just like your Father”.
Regain the simple days of our youth, of being cared for. Without being childish, let’s grab and hold on to our spiritual childhood. Hold on to God.
God bless you.
