If he has committed any sins, he will be forgiven.
Therefore, confess your sins to one another
and pray for one another, that you may be healed.
The fervent prayer of a righteous person is very powerful.
Elijah was a man like us;
yet he prayed earnestly that it might not rain,
and for three years and six months it did not rain upon the land.
Then Elijah prayed again, and the sky gave rain
and the earth produced its fruit.
My brothers and sisters,
if anyone among you should stray from the truth
and someone bring him back,
he should know that whoever brings back a sinner
from the error of his way will save his soul from death
and will cover a multitude of sins.
REFLECTION
The prayer of faith will save the sick person,
and the Lord will raise him up.
A few weeks ago I listened to my grandson’s night prayer to God. There was no restraint. Lots of familiar stories. Lots of innocence. Lots of confidence and freedom.
He spoke to God as he speaks to his Dad, happy to see him, being with him and fully trusting that he is loved.
And His ears are into their prayers (Psalm 33:16)
God does not leave you, even when you rest. He is with you in your dreams, when you wake up in the middle of the night and even when you hit that snooze button.
Never forget His presence in our lives if we have not driven him away in our sins.
Tell Him your fears and concerns: though He knows them, we should verbalize them. Converse with Him as one converses with a friend. Offer your petition to Him and accept His will, always seeking consolation and comfort.
So, when we are asked to pray for someone who is sick, has marital problems, prodigal children, jobless, lonely or abandoned, persecuted or tempted meet up with your friend, God, and let Him know of your friends’ problems. Don’t walk away with a quick Our Father or just mentioning their name in prayer but actually converse with God of their needs and problems.
Would not His Mother talk to Jesus about your needs?
God will listen, comfort and if not answer how we wish, will give you and your friend the graces and strength to suffer that grief with patience.
