SATURDAY OF THE TENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME, JUNE 15, 2024

MASS READINGS:

Gospel

Mt 5:33-37

Jesus said to his disciples:

"You have heard that it was said to your ancestors,

Do not take a false oath,

but make good to the Lord all that you vow.

But I say to you, do not swear at all;

not by heaven, for it is God's throne;

nor by the earth, for it is his footstool;

nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.

Do not swear by your head,

for you cannot make a single hair white or black.

Let your 'Yes' mean 'Yes,' and your 'No' mean 'No.'

Anything more is from the Evil One."

REFLECTION

Let your 'Yes' mean 'Yes,' and your 'No' mean 'No.'

If only life was black and white….we would be happier and satisfied. Is this true?

Our present society relies on human means. In this political year, we have witnessed falsehoods, exaggerations, slandering, gaslighting, redefining nature and forgetting in the dignity of a human being. People differentiate between sex and gender, interpret the law to their advantage, lie, steal and cheat. People demand that whatever they say is true and demand you believe and agree with them.

In a few months we will see what our nation says is truth and what is not. Did what we believe become broken promises, were there truly changes of hearts, were nuanced words spoken, can we trust again?

We can confirm our lives to this world or we can conform our life to that of Christ. And if we do, remember there are no grey zones with God. “Yes” is “yes” and “no” is “no” and never will His teachings and Commandments change.

Are we truly in love with Christ and therefore, so united to him that we can say, “Christ lives in me” ?(Galatians 2:20)

We are sustained by this grace of God. Distancing from reality is not an option. Let us pray and fast to live each day for Christ, living in the world and to do what must be done in the world.

“We can do all things in the One who gives us strength.” (Philippians 4:13)
