Reading 1

" in the end he gave him his blessing."

REFLECTION

Every time I come across this reading from Genesis, I am annoyed at the treachery of Rebekah against Esau and Isaac; the disappointment of Jacob fooling his father and the hypocrisy of all that happened. I carry that injustice for quite awhile in my heart. There is my inner rebellion: Question God and His infinite plan.

But....

I am reminded that God has a plan for everyone in everything. Even in this story.

Esau had given up his birthright flippantly for a bowl of stew and did not follow God's law. He married women outside of Israel. It was part of God’s providential plan that Esau be excluded from the line that would lead to Christ. Instead, God chose Jacob, who was flawed yet faithful, to carry on His promise to Isaac and Abraham. God had a plan for Jacob as He did for Esau.

God is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. In the end God gave them His blessing.

God Bless You
