Boaz, Ruth and Naomi with Obed, father of David, the great King of Israel.

Reading 1

Boaz answered her:

"I have had a complete account of what you have done

for your mother-in-law after your husband's death;

you have left your father and your mother and the land of your birth,

and have come to a people whom you did not know previously."

REFLECTION

We can always find God's grace in the midst of difficult times. One daughter-in-law , Orpha, went back to her family and the other, Ruth, stayed behind to care for Naomi who was alone. Ruth refused to leave her and took very good care of her. Ruth said, "Please don’t make me leave you. Where you go, I will go, where you live, I will live, your people shall be my people and your God my God.” (Ruth 1:16).

Ruth had nothing but herself to give to Naomi. It was her humility and compassionate love that she could offer. Boaz noticed this and taking notice of her plight, made her life better.

We, too, can look at ourselves. Instead of crying out in fear, thinking of ourselves first or looking out for and accomplishing the plans that we made, we should remind ourselves that we are worth hardly anything. With this attitude we can open ourselves to God's greatness and goodness. It is there that we will find our joy and peace.

God never tires of caring for us. God is love and what He wants from us is love. Our love is due first to God, but there is no genuine love of God unless it finds expression in love of our neighbor.

Today open up your heart to someone in need. Show God how much you love Him.

God Bless You
