SATURDAY OF THE TWENTY-SEVENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 9, 2021

MASS READINGS

A reading of the holy Gospel according to Lk 11:27-28

While Jesus was speaking, a woman from the crowd called out and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed.” He replied, “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.”

REFLECTION

He replied, “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.”

There is a British show by the name, "Keeping Up Appearances". Mrs Bucket likes to be called Mrs "Bouquet". Her family is ordinary but she loves to associate with people who have titles, wants to impress whom she knows and goes out of her way to upgrade her past, present and future by the "name dropping" of either famous people, or speaking in such a way that people assume she has connections.

A person in the crowd shouted a compliment to Jesus by praising His Mother. And Jesus did not deny the truth of the blessing. But He added that the source of all blessings and happiness is union with God in heart, mind and will.

With profound humility may we give of ourselves to God knowing from whom our source of dignity comes from.
