When Jesus had risen, early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. She went and told his companions who were mourning and weeping. When they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they did not believe.
After this he appeared in another form to two of them walking along on their way to the country. They returned and told the others; but they did not believe them either.
But later, as the Eleven were at table, he appeared to them and rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart because they had not believed those who saw him after he had been raised. He said to them, “Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature.”
REFLECTION
appeared in another form
"they did not believe."
How can you sell something when you do not believe it works, or you don't understand why it is needed? When we meet with the doctor, with less than 5 minutes explaining the procedure, we are asked, "Do you have any questions?' How do you even begin to answer?
Sometimes we are not able to comprehend because there was too much going on. The disciples had just lost their beloved Jesus. They were told by different people that He was alive. They saw His final gasp of breath. They had to discern if what they were hearing was authentic or someone taking advantage of their emotions.
What a loving Jesus--He appears in a different form and yet is still not recognized. He finally tells the apostles of their need to believe and to quit being hard hearted. After all, though bodily changed, they should have realized that He is alive and that they were seeing Him.
Ask for the faith and to be equipped in His mission of bringing souls to Him. It is important to proclaim the Good News now to unbelievers. Our teacher is telling us to “Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature.” Now!!
