A reading of the holy Gospel according to Jn 2:1-11
There was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servers, “Do whatever he tells you.” Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings, each holding twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus told them, “Fill the jars with water.” So they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.” So they took it. And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing where it came from — although the servers who had drawn the water knew —, the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now.” Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs at Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe in him.
REFLECTION
“Do whatever he tells you.”
Do you remember who taught you to listen to God's voice? For me, it was my mother who sat with me and helped me with my prayers, took me to Church, sewed beautiful outfits befitting a visit with the King. She taught me love, hope, patience and giving. And with that, my young life was consoled and shaped by the love for God.
Mary likewise shared her love for God with her Son. Jesus was taught by His father, St Joseph, as well, to listen to God.
And at the beginning of His public life, His Mother said to the servants, “Do whatever He tells you”.
And this they did. Jesus performed His first miracle because His Mother intervened. God’s merciful love took pity on the wedding party and in turn made His Divine glory manifest.
God wants love, obedience, and a boundless confidence in Him from all of us.
Thought of the Day: When you feel abandoned or things are not going your way, do not despair or feel alone; remember all the graces of the past. If you cannot pray, look at Our Lady and hear Her say, “Do whatever He tells you”.
“Without love, deeds, even the most brilliant, count as nothing.”
(St Therese Lisieux)
God bless you
