A reading from the holy Gospel according to John 1:35-42
John was standing with two of his disciples, and as he watched Jesus walk by, he said, “Behold, the Lamb of God.” The two disciples heard what he said and followed Jesus. Jesus turned and saw them following him and said to them, “What are you looking for?” They said to him, “Rabbi” — which translated means Teacher —, “where are you staying?” He said to them, “Come, and you will see.” So they went and saw where Jesus was staying, and they stayed with him that day. It was about four in the afternoon. Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard John and followed Jesus. He first found his own brother Simon and told him, “We have found the Messiah” — which is translated Christ —. Then he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John; you will be called Cephas” — which is translated Peter.
REFLECTION: “What are you looking for?” ..... “Come, and you will see.”
The longings of the heart cannot be ignored, denied or placated. There are many cravings in the core of every human heart put there by God so that we can seek His grace and presence.
The disciples of John have been seeking the Messiah. Once John the Baptist pointed him out, they started following Him. And Jesus knowing they were trailing Him asked, "What are you looking for?"
God knows and calls our name. He desires us. So. "What are you looking for?" should not come as a surprise when He asks us this question. God is seeking this union with us. Do not hesitate to answer, 'Jeeeesus-----Mercy',(Breathe Jesus or BJ prayer). Is this not what we really are looking for?
So just what is it that we want from God when we take our problems, questions, sorrows, anger, joy and happiness to Him? We come to God in prayer, seeking the Lord who first sought us. Answer the longing of your heart. "Come and you will see."
God Bless You
