A reading from the holy Gospel according to Lk 9:28b-36

Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up the mountain to pray. While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white. And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem. Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him. As they were about to part from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here; let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” But he did not know what he was saying. While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over them, and they became frightened when they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my chosen Son; listen to him.” After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. They fell silent and did not at that time tell anyone what they had seen.

REFLECTION

"They saw His glory"

This life is a journey to Heaven. The obstacles of the devil, the world and the flesh we contend with. There is no escaping these potholes.

Our Lord, however, has not left us alone without a guide.

In Jeremiah we were promised a new spirit and a new heart: His Spirit within us would cause us to walk in His statutes, and be careful to obey His rules. His was an everlasting covenant, that He would not turn away from doing good to us. And He would put the fear of God in our hearts so that we may not turn away from Him. (1)

On Mount Tabor Jesus prayed with Peter, James and John. His apostles had heavy hearts as Jesus had foretold His death.

And in His Transfiguration and glory He had given them a glimpse beyond the Cross: a happiness that they did not want to leave, and of which St Peter wrote about. (2)

The Cross was still there, but through His kindness and consolations, they were able to continue and persevere with life, knowing what awaited them.

God is with us at all times, in all our circumstances and crosses. He has shown us, but for a brief moment, what eternal happiness will be. Pray, fast and trust in the Lord.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation.”
(Psalm 27)

God bless you.
