SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, JULY 17, 2022

A Gospel according to Lk 10:38-42

Jesus entered a village

where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him.

She had a sister named Mary

who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak.

Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said,

"Lord, do you not care

that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving?

Tell her to help me."

The Lord said to her in reply,

"Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.

There is need of only one thing.

Mary has chosen the better part

and it will not be taken from her."

REFLECTION

"Martha, burdened with much serving."

We often are obsessed with hospitality than with enjoying the moment when our friends come to visit. Because we miss the hospitality to talk to them about any subject that might come up.

At Christmas time my family was always completely preoccupied with serving the dinner and not reflecting on why we were having dinner that night in the first place: to celebrate Jesus's birth.

With time I realized that the gifts and the dinner go away. Jesus remains.

With my family now, we still enjoy the meal, and the gifts, the seasonal celebrations, and gettogethers. Make Jesus the center of these celebrations, and look forward to celebrating midnight Mass on Christmas Eve.

Let's remember to slow down and really understand what is important in the moment.

Best wishes to all y'all!
