A reading from the holy Gospel according to Jn 21:15-19
Jesus had revealed himself to his disciplesand, when they had finished breakfast, said to Simon Peter,“Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?”Simon Peter answered him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.”He then said to Simon Peter a second time,“Simon, son of John, do you love me?”Simon Peter answered him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”He said to him, “Tend my sheep.”He said to him the third time,“Simon, son of John, do you love me?”Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time,“Do you love me?” and he said to him,“Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.”Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.Amen, amen, I say to you, when you were younger, you used to dress yourself and go where you wanted;but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress youand lead you where you do not want to go.”He said this signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God.And when he had said this, he said to him, “Follow me.”
REFLECTION
“Follow me.”
Today we celebrate the martyrdom of Saints Peter and Paul in Rome. Saints Peter and Paul were two different personalities who loved the Lord. One left his fish nets to follow Jesus and become the leader of the Catholic Church. The other, St Paul, was an educated Pharisee who persecuted the christians until the Lord revealed Himself to him. Both loved Jesus, both chose tofollowJesus but both evangelized so differently. St Peter worked with the Jewish people; St Paul worked with the Gentiles. They both proclaimed that Jesus was the Son of God.
Quite different men, but with the same goal--to obey Jesus and follow Him. And so they did even unto death: both martyred in Rome.
Our PAPA (Priest Always Prayer Apostolate) Family had a celebration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, our Founder. Our members come from many different cultures, different walks of life, different ages, different gifts and different personalities. We have one thing in common--we love Jesus and want to love Him more, and become more like Jesus.
Our....
Vocation is to Choose life, life eternal.
Vision is to see priests on fire for Jesus and His church, the Body and Bride of Christ.
Mission is to "Go and make disciples of all nations." (Matthew 28: 18, 20)
Purpose is to pray for priests and recruit all to pray for priests by any necessary means.
Legacy is to put a smile of Jesus into the life of anyone we meet.
And how can that happen? Only through the Holy Spirit--yes, the same Spirit that was in St Peter and St Paul lives in us. The Holy Spirit will use us in spite of our flaws, and He will teach us how to abandon ourselves to Him and work for the Kingdom of God and preach the Good News.
