SOLEMNITY OF ST JOSEPH, SPOUSE OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, MARCH 20, 2023

REFLECTION

When Joseph awoke,

he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him

and took his wife into his home.

When we see someone through the eyes of God, it is easier to love, easier to forgive and easier to be patient.

St Francis de Sales says, "Spiritual lovers, spouses of the Celestial King, do not purify themselves to be pure, nor do they adorn themselves to be beautiful, but solely to please their celestial spouse." With this in mind, the overall confidence in God helps to have a quiet and faithful relationship with Him as we wait on His will.

God "measures" out to us what we need. St Joseph had the complete trust in His providence. He was a simple man who loved God and Mary. He faced many seemingly hopeless situations. He realized in doing, he placed his faith and trust in God and His will.

No matter what we face--marriage problems, prodigal children, difficult work environment, doubts, illness, we can be like St Joseph--be happy with simple grace in love and hope. Choose the simple life.

St Joseph did not fear scandal, disgrace, embarrassment or fear of being destitute. He depended on God. His entire life was consumed loving God and his family. Love alone gave meaning to his life. Trust allowed more love to be in him.

God Bless You.
