ST ALBERT THE GREAT, OPTIONAL MEMORIAL, BISHOP AND DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH SATURDAY OF THE THIRTY-SECOND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME, NOVEMBER 15, 2025

Gospel

Jesus told his disciples a parable about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary. He said, “There was a judge in a certain town who neither feared God nor respected any human being. And a widow in that town used to come to him and say, ‘Render a just decision for me against my adversary.’ For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought, ‘While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being, because this widow keeps bothering me I shall deliver a just decision for her lest she finally come and strike me.’” The Lord said, “Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says. Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night? Will he be slow to answer them? I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

REFLECTION

the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary.

St Albert the Great was a Dominican, great scholar, and teacher of St Thomas Aquinas. They both used their natural gifts of intellect to spread His Word and in so doing glorified God. Do we use our gifts to evangelize and draw others to Christ?

We might not evangelize at the level of St Albert the Great and St Thomas Aquinas for souls but we do have gifts that are to be used for His Kingdom. As the widow, we know how to work for our needs and wants with persistence, patience, perseverance and great deal of love.

A man, called to be a priest, St John Vianney, was dismissed from the seminary due to academic problems. He persisted and persevered in his studies with the support of his local parish priest who tutored him privately. Great Saint!

Mother Teresa of Calcutta sought out the homeless and abandoned, cleaned their bodies and made sure they died in dignity. She persevered in her service to the “poorest of the poor” and persevered in her opposition to abortion. Great Saint!

St Therese of Lisieux begged, pleaded and sobbed for Pope Leo XIII to allow her to enter at the young age of 15 the Carmelite order. And she did. Great Saint!

God knows the love that is required to overcome the fear of being considered a pest. May we have the courage to ask again, again and again. We don’t deserve anything and yet God provides for our needs. May we call out to God for his mercy, demand not, but with thanks and praise ask for His Will be done in our lives.

“Remember the marvels the Lord has done.” (Psalm 105)

God Bless You
