A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark 1:7-11
This is what John the Baptist proclaimed: “One mightier than I is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. On coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him. And a voice came from the heavens, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
REFLECTION: “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
Jesus Christ begins His public ministry at His Baptism in the Jordan River, without the noise, fanfare, and the shouting of the news . He is quiet and very simple. He is loving kindness.
People were still trying to figure out the Lord. The Lord was able to move His Father's love. As He is baptized, the skies open, the dove comes down and God, the Father, is heard with a tribute to His Son. Did the crowd hear it?
Jesus submitted Himself to His Father's Will. In the humility of His actions, He gives us His mercy. Reflect on the loving kindness of Jesus, in whom His Father said, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” Do we want to hear God the Father say that to us when we pray for priests and win souls for Him?
God Bless You
