The disciples approached Jesus and said,"Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven?" He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said, "Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the Kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me. "See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father."
REFLECTION
"See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father."
The Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels reminds us how much God loves us and how He takes care of us. Our guardian angel is with us from birth continuously pointing us toward God.
In the Catholic Bible the guardian angels are mentioned approximately 300 times. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) explicitly teaches about angels and guardian angels. We read, "Because they always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven". (Mt 18:10). "Bless the Lord, you His angels, Mighty in strength, who perform His word, Obeying the voice of His word!" ( Ps 103:20)
Our Holy Guardian Angels' assignment is to protect and intercede for us. In today's Gospel, when the apostles asked Jesus who is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven, He places a child among them and says that unless they become like children, they will not enter the Kingdom. "See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my Heavenly Father. "
I do not know the number of times my guardian angel has protected me. Perhaps she (he) was talking to me when I got the urge to pray for someone, forgive someone, or avoid the near occasion of sin.
From infancy to death, remember that God has not left us alone on this journey. With humility as a child, we should listen to our guardian angels.
