A reading from the holy Gospel according to Jn 19:31-37
Since it was preparation day,
in order that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the sabbath,
for the sabbath day of that week was a solemn one,
the Jews asked Pilate that their legs be broken
and they be taken down.
So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first
and then of the other one who was crucified with Jesus.
But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead,
they did not break his legs,
but one soldier thrust his lance into his side,
and immediately blood and water flowed out.
An eyewitness has testified, and his testimony is true;
he knows that he is speaking the truth,
so that you also may come to believe.
For this happened so that the Scripture passage might be fulfilled:
Not a bone of it will be broken.
And again another passage says:
They will look upon him whom they have pierced.
REFLECTIONone soldier thrust his lance into his side,
and immediately blood and water flowed out. They will look upon him whom they have pierced.
We spend so much time guarding our hearts in order not to get hurt. If we don't expose our feelings, or allow ourselves to become vulnerable, we feel safe and can carry on the persona that we want others to see and know us by.
Not so with Jesus.
Jesus Christ, the second person of the Holy Trinity, God the Son became man and exposed His love for all to see. He humbled and sacrificed Himself for us so that we could spend eternity with Him.
The Sacred Heart of Jesus is our PAPA ultimate Patron. Each member must devote their time and life to Him, daily praying the Divine Mercy and consecrating daily to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
God knows the thoughts and intentions of our hearts. In fact He knows all our thoughts while we only know those that we have been able to discern. Many of our thoughts play tricks on our hearts and can bedazzle our eyes. There are many paths we can take that seem right but lead us straight to hell.
Jesus seeks us out, wanting our hearts to be like His.
Jesus Christ exposed His heart for all to see. In fact He gives His Heart to us in His crucified hands. He has given us His Word and shown us His works leaving nothing about Him unrevealed. He wants us to unite our hearts with His.
St Alphonsus Liguori said in his novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus," He has loved us to the greatest degree: for there never was a moment from eternity when God did not think of us and did not love each one-of us: He has loved us more than His honor, more than His repose, and more than His life; for He sacrificed everything to show us the love that He bears us".
Jesus exposed Himself to ridicule, defilement, and deicide, humbling Himself to the whims and the evil of man for our redemption. He loved us so much that He expended Himself so that we could spend eternity in His love.
Do we hide our hearts from God? Do we choose to seek God, expose our thoughts, our sins, our failures, our outright evil and allow the Holy Blood to bathe us and clean us?
" Love makes us desire the constant presence of the object of our love. It is this love and this desire that makes Jesus Christ reside with us in the Most Holy Sacrament." (St Alphonsus Liguori)
His Most Sacred Heart is there in the tabernacle waiting for us to spend time with Him. Kneel before the Father and let Jesus dwell in your hearts and allow the Holy Spirit to open our hearts, to seek Him and to find Him. God ,who loves us so that He became man to suffer for us, will change our lives.
