Gospel

Mk 1:14-20

After John had been arrested,

Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God:

"This is the time of fulfillment.

The kingdom of God is at hand.

Repent, and believe in the gospel."

As he passed by the Sea of Galilee,

he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea;

they were fishermen.

Jesus said to them,

"Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men."

Then they abandoned their nets and followed him.

He walked along a little farther

and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John.

They too were in a boat mending their nets.

Then he called them.

So they left their father Zebedee in the boat

along with the hired men and followed him.

REFLECTION

"The kingdom of God is at hand.

Repent, and believe in the gospel."

As soon as Christmas was coming to an end and therefore an end to all the "carefree attitude " of what is eaten, I began getting notices of chair yoga, intermittent fasting programs and "yum yummy" vegetable recipes on my Facebook page.

Our summer vacation plans encourage and convince me that it's time to eat healthier and exercise, as in a few months I will be reminded of any good or bad decisions I have made. It will take hard and disciplined work.

In today's gospel Jesus emphasizes "The Kingdom of God is at hand, repent and believe in the Gospel." How easy or hard is this? We are promised Heaven if we obey His commandments and repent. Am I so attached to sin and worldly things that I am willing to risk death?

Whether it's weight loss or obtaining a degree, raising children in the faith, or a good marriage, we know it takes work. We know we cannot do anything without God. He offers Himself to get us where we want to be--with Him in Heaven.

I have no chance in succeeding unless God is in control, showing me His way, teaching me His way how to be perfect.

Let the best teacher, physician, consoler and intercessor show us His ways. Join us for FACE ZBS (zoom bible study) every Wednesday at noon CST and get to know and eventually fall in love with Him. Check papamio.org for the zoom link or contact us.

As St Jerome said, “Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ!” FACE ZBS is taught by our spiritual director and theologian, Father Michael Truongluan Nguyen.

"Your ways, O Lord, make known to me and teach me your paths."
