Gospel

Jesus said: "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light."

REFLECTION

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me....

The word yoke is used here and now to express two individuals being bound and working together in partnership: in marriage, husband and wife in union share ideas, goals, values, and beliefs. Each shares and they work together towards a common result. It is a privilege and honor being yoked together with a kindred spirit, one who loves us and we love them. No burden is too heavy when it is carried with love, trust and obedience.

Jesus loves us that much that he invites us to be yoked with Him and rest in His presence. He wants to carry with us our burdens and walk with Him in love. He will lead us to His kingdom where there will be peace, joy and a "giddy" cheerfulness in His arms. Rebellion and refusal to follow Him may result in great damage physically and spiritually as our yokes will not be working together.

Meditation: There is no promise of an easy life if one is yoked with Jesus but we do know that He will never leave us and will lead us to heaven. As we willingly take His yoke, our every breath and every beat of our heart will be united with Him.

Ponder: Place His yoke upon you, learn from Him, as He is gentle and humble of heart. The Cross was His destination. Will you let Him help you carry your cross?

God bless you.
