One of the special memories of our Holy Land Pilgrimage was dinnertime. Why? It was a time to relax and meet up with friends over a meal. Where to sit? Who to sit with whom I had not yet gotten to know? We discussed what we saw and learned that day.
The buffet table brought about questions such as what to eat? Should I try this vegetable? Is that a vegetable? How about the treats for dessert? How do I choose? Everything looks so good.
We saw the many places that Jesus walked, preached, healed, brought relief and help to the sick. The lepers were waiting for Him. They begged Him to make them clean. And He did. “I do will it. Be made clean.”
Life is beautiful and we forget what a grand buffet God lays out before us daily. His creation speaks to us even when we suffer and are in pain. Even when we slumber. St Jerome said, "To saints their very slumber is a prayer".
Good friends and kindred spirits remind us of God's love and kindness. Mass brings God to us and we are nourished daily along with the many readings, psalms and Gospels. Confession allows us to reconcile with our Father. Good priests protect and guide us.
Who does God want you to meet today? A simple smile might be all we are called to do.
What is it that God wills for you? Big things, small things, cleaning, cooking, reading, calling friends, praying, meditating, contemplating or volunteering.
What sins do we work on today? Stop being harsh, judgmental, uncaring, sarcastic, opinionated, rude, angry, impatient. Work on those 7 capital sins. Be careful with our intellect as the words we choose might hurt someone.
The buffet of all God has to give us is before us. Simply kneel down and present ourselves, our sins, our plans, our worries to Him.
Let Him know what we think we need and wait for His answer and His will.
