THURSDAY OF THE FIRST WEEK OF ADVENT DECEMBER 1, 2022

A reading of the holy Gospel according to Mt 7:21, 24-27

Jesus said to his disciples: Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. “Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock. And everyone who listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. And it collapsed and was completely ruined.”

REFLECTION

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.

We know that spoken words if not backed up by deeds or actions are meaningless. Perfect examples are politicians, bad business partners, acqaintances who say what is needed for the moment but quickly get lost in the forest of broken promises. Just recently we saw falsely spoken words from the Theranos CEO and the FTX cryptocurrency head. Promises, fakery and swindling done to keep up appearances with others' money.

Jesus' words are always true and will never change. We can rely on this. So when we praise the Lord in prayer and words, do our actions support our words? Do I cheat a little, tell white lies, speak poorly behind people's back, or find a good opportune time to gossip?

Not only are we risking not getting into heaven but we might be the ruin of someone who follows our example. Our facade will one day crumble. Be assured that if we do the Will of God we are safe.

And what is the Will of God for you?

God Bless You.
