Jesus said to his disciples: "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Which one of you would hand his son a stone when he asked for a loaf of bread, or a snake when he asked for a fish? If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him. "Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the law and the prophets."
REFLECTION
"Do to others whatever you would have them do to you."
The more you know someone the more you know how they think, how they react and what "sets them off" and how they respond to criticism or self doubt. So you find yourself adjusting your interactions with them.
The devil knows us. He sees us. He finds that little thread to unravel, tear us apart. He knows our likes and dislikes and how we will react to life situations. This morning as I drank my one cup of coffee and no more for the day (Lenten promise), the "burbling" noise of the coffee pot still hot and brewing reminded me over and over that there was still fresh hot coffee to be had.
This was the battleground the spirit of evil chose to weaken my resolve. As with all temptations, the question posed was, "What harm will there be if you don't keep your promises or follow the commandments?"
The Gospel message of "Ask, Seek and Knock" was right before me. Are broken promises okay, but, yet when I want something, "Ask, Seek and Knock" becomes a persistent prayer--a persistent reminder to God of His promises?
Hmmm? Be aware of the temptation for comfort, pleasure and justification of broken promises.
Spend time with God who loves you. Pray frequently not so much for what you want but for what others need, and to be able to confront our weaknesses.
All for the glory of God in our lives and in the lives of others!!
"A clean heart create for me, O God; give me back the joy of your salvation". (Psalm 51:12)
