Gospel

When Jesus had washed the disciples' feet, he said to them: "Amen, amen, I say to you, no slave is greater than his master nor any messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you understand this, blessed are you if you do it. I am not speaking of all of you. I know those whom I have chosen. But so that the Scripture might be fulfilled, The one who ate my food has raised his heel against me. From now on I am telling you before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe that I AM. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me."

REFLECTION

“…so that when it happens, you may believe that I AM”.

I AM is the reason I will never leave the Catholic Church. The Holy Eucharist is I AM, the living Bread, which came down from heaven. "If anyone eats of the Bread, he will live forever; and the Bread which I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” (John 6:51)

Sometimes we need to change the status quo. What we choose might be limited by our circumstances, obligations, physical or health limitations and overall what life brings us.

Some will become enthusiastic tourists, hopping from one place to another, posting pictures and/or sending Christmas letters telling all what they did over the past year.

Others will become pilgrims knowing there is more to life and there is a need to find it.

As pilgrims we may stay at home with God, visit many beautiful churches and pray, or visit and meet the great saints: Carlo Acutis, Padre Pio, Benedict, Francis of Assisi, , the humble Juan Diego, or pray before the miraculous Tilma of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Fatima and Medjugorje. We are seeking. The saints and Mother Mary will show us to our Lord whether we travel or not.

The Eucharistic miracles of Lanciano in Italy, or Santarém in Portugal are a glimpse of what awaits us. We are called to union with Him and be with Him for eternity.

As for me and my house, I will settle for nothing less than I Am who nourishes me and teaches me how to have communion with Him for eternity. For this I pray for myself and my family.

God bless you.
