Thus says the LORD:Cursed is the man who trusts in human beings, who seeks his strength in flesh, whose heart turns away from the LORD.He is like a barren bush in the desert that enjoys no change of season,But stands in a lava waste, a salt and empty earth.Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose hope is the LORD.He is like a tree planted beside the waters that stretches out its roots to the stream:It fears not the heat when it comes, its leaves stay green; In the year of drought it shows no distress, but still bears fruit.More tortuous than all else is the human heart, beyond remedy; who can understand it?I, the LORD, alone probe the mind and test the heart,To reward everyone according to his ways according to the merit of his deeds.
REFLECTION: Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose hope is the LORD.
St Casimir of Poland is the saint of the day. He was the third child of King Casimir IV, King of Poland and Elizabeth of Austria. He was known as The Peace-Maker. He gave himself over to devotion and penance. His bed was often the ground and he meditated and prayed on the passion of Christ. His love of God showed itself in the love of the poor. He gave away most of his possessions. "Nothing was more pleasant, nothing more desirable for him, than to share his belongings, and even to dedicate and give his entire self to Christ’s poor, to strangers, to the sick, to those in captivity and all who suffer.”—(Butler's Lives of the Saints)
He died of tuberculosis at the age of 23. Many miracles were attributed to him.
St Casimir spent so much time with the Lord that he knew Him and therefore was able to surrender and trust Him. The foundation of trust is faith in God's presence in our lives, no matter how small. Jesus taught us to have a childlike trust in the Father. St Casimir was able to give all his possessions to the poor because he had full confidence of God's love for him.
We respond positively to whatever happens since it is within the plan of our loving Father.
