Gospel

"Father, they are your gift to me."

REFLECTION

The family is a most important part of life. It is the source of love, attention, guidance and material sustenance. We identify with someone caring for us in the supplying of food, shelter, education, spiritual and moral guidance. Though we grow up and move to other cities or countries, family always beckons us for reunions, phone calls and letters.

We treat our elders, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles with respect both in action, deeds and words. We get up and offer a seat. We listen attentively and not criticize or make them feel unwanted or uncared for. We serve them. When they enter a room we stand and greet them with either a hug, handshake or nodding of head.

With our siblings and cousins, however, there is a different way to speak and act.

Family is a gift from God. We have their constant and unconditional support. We give back to them in the best manner possible. And we thank God for all He has given and done for us. He teaches us through His Son.

We are privileged to read Jesus' Last Supper Discourse. This is his final prayer for His disciples and for all of us as well. "Lifting up His eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed saying..."

Our physical disposition is important not only on how we treat others but most importantly how we pray. We make the sign of the cross with Holy Water, kneel in adoration, and at consecration in Mass we are reverent not looking around but looking at Jesus without any distraction. When in prayer, when at Mass all is done out of respect and love. Show God the dignity and disposition of love in our prayer life.

Jesus teaches us how to talk with God. When we pray we never pray alone as Jesus is always by our side.

God Bless You
