Jesus and his disciples set out for the villages of Caesarea Philippi. Along the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” They said in reply, “John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others one of the prophets.” And he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter said to him in reply, “You are the Christ.” Then he warned them not to tell anyone about him. He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes and be killed, and rise after three days. He spoke this openly. Then Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. At this he turned around and, looking at his disciples, rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan. You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do.”
REFLECTION
“Get behind me, Satan".
"Never speak with the Father of lies" was the take home message from the homily on February 14, 2025.
Christ the King came to snatch us away from the powers of darkness and open the way to the brightness of His Kingdom. Doubts, circumstances, losses can cause us to question God's love for us.
But why? Can we excuse ourselves because of our humanity from doubting and vacillating on our beliefs? Jesus is showing us what true love is--how our hearts expand when we share this love with others, welling up with many graces.
Following Christ through His examples, His affections and saying, "yes" to joining and participating in His work and struggles can be daunting.
We need to stop thinking and reacting as human beings but work on faith and trust in God and His direction.
We pray for priests who act in persona Christi, the person of Christ. Sometimes our prayers can be felt to be obligatory but whether passionate or not, it is our duty to pray for the priests to stay strong, endure hardships, and bring as many souls to God. The father of all lies is waiting to slow us down, distract us in many ways from our prayers. Satan especially is not wanting the priests to hear confessions, be devout in their praises to God and to bring Jesus everyday at Mass for our nourishment. Satan is fighting for our souls.
Join us in daily combat, praying for our priests. Please visit our website, papamio.org for the prayer for priests as well as other devotionals.
