A reading of the holy Gospel according to Lk 7:24-30
When the messengers of John the Baptist had left,Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John. “What did you go out to the desert to see a reed swayed by the wind? Then what did you go out to see? Someone dressed in fine garments? Those who dress luxuriously and live sumptuouslyare found in royal palaces. Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is the one about whom Scripture says: Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, he will prepare your way before you.I tell you, among those born of women, no one is greater than John;yet the least in the Kingdom of God is greater than he.”(All the people who listened, including the tax collectors, who were baptized with the baptism of John, acknowledged the righteousness of God;but the Pharisees and scholars of the law,who were not baptized by him, rejected the plan of God for themselves.)
REFLECTION
rejected the plan of God for themselves
In the beginning of the St Ignatius Spiritual Exercises, we learn that "Man was created for God".
Knowledge of God is not enough, though. Many atheists know about God but yet they reject Him. The foundation of our relationship with God is to have an encounter with Him, not only with knowledge, but following Him in our thoughts, words and actions.
Jesus is always seeking us out. He is good, just and knows us well. He is full of love for us and if we approach Him in repentance, His love forgives, forgets, reconciles, pardons and saves us. He does not hold grudges, nor reminds us of our offenses.
He does judge us according to what He sees inside. He looks at our heart, will and intentions. No one else can .
As Christmas is fast approaching, seek out the Lord in confession and proclaim the Gospel of Truth to those around us. Reflect on the amazing gift of life, the gift of grace of divine life that God has given us. In gratitude seek Him and rekindle your relationship with Him.
