THURSDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK OF LENT, MARCH 27, 2025

Reading 1

Thus says the LORD: This is what I commanded my people: Listen to my voice; then I will be your God and you shall be my people. Walk in all the ways that I command you, so that you may prosper. But they obeyed not, nor did they pay heed. They walked in the hardness of their evil hearts and turned their backs, not their faces, to me. From the day that your fathers left the land of Egypt even to this day, I have sent you untiringly all my servants the prophets. Yet they have not obeyed me nor paid heed; they have stiffened their necks and done worse than their fathers. When you speak all these words to them, they will not listen to you either; when you call to them, they will not answer you. Say to them: This is the nation that does not listen to the voice of the LORD, its God, or take correction. Faithfulness has disappeared; the word itself is banished from their speech.

REFLECTION

Walk in all the ways that I command you, so that you may prosper.

The world tells us that "the squeaky wheel gets the grease" --the louder you are the more will people notice you. The more you complain or draw attention to yourselves, the more likely that you will get and receive attention than those who stay quiet. If we get what we want, then all will look at us and follow us, as truly we would be considered leaders, strong willed not letting anyone interfere in our plans or dreams. In fact our tendency might be to copycat that version of success.

But in the chaos of noise, the cacophany of words, when do we have time to listen to the voice of the Lord?

Our Lord reminds us of who we are, and tells us to listen to His voice, to take correction so that we can think, speak, pray and act like Him. Find quiet time in your busy day. Perhaps wake up earlier, find a comfortable spot to pray- singing praises to God in thanksgiving.

Read His Word. It is His personal letter to you. Believe His promises. Determine to set about a new habit. With humility let the Lord take over your thoughts and deeds. Listen to His voice.

May God continue to bless you during these 40 days.
