As Jesus drew near Jerusalem, he saw the city and wept over it, saying, “If this day you only knew what makes for peace–but now it is hidden from your eyes. For the days are coming upon you when your enemies will raise a palisade against you; they will encircle you and hem you in on all sides. They will smash you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave one stone upon another within you because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”
REFLECTION
“ If this day you only knew what makes for peace…but now it is hidden from your eyes.”
So many days I am on top of the world feeling good about myself, my family, my life. Noticing the "my" and the "me" in my thoughts, my happy affair about myself shows me how selfish and pharisaical I can be. When I get comfy in the status quo, in my routine, my daily devotions and practices… thinking I have it all figured out…either someone or something reminds me that true peace comes from God’s active stirring of His love in my life.
The Holy Spirit does not work in our lives without introducing us to the crying baby, the good friend who is in her last stages of life, the friends and family who have left the Church, household chores that never seem to be finished and the best laid out plans for peace are disrupted by one phone call, one texted message, one “moment of where did I Ieave my glasses, keys, etc.”
Jesus knows all the back stories, the headlines.
These are reminders of God’s superabundant love inviting us into His peace, taking us away from misconceptions, pride, laziness, and into His World where we are to experience Him in a way that only He knows. Let us pray for the virtues of faith, hope, charity, humility, patience, perseverance and obedience.
