Jesus said to his disciples: "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name? 'Then I will declare to them solemnly, 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers.'"
Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock. And everyone who listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. And it collapsed and was completely ruined. "When Jesus finished these words, the crowds were astonished at his teaching ,for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.
REFLECTION
Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.
How does one identify a leader? Confidence in their speech, demeanor and in how they express themselves are some ways. Another is by the results of how they confront problems or better still how they pray and the sweet gifts and virtues they possess that come from none other than the Holy Spirit. Do we want to see a physician who hems and haws, or a priest who just pats you on your back when you are spilling private problems and situations wanting advice or counsel?
When one is tenuous about what he believes nor convicted of certain truths, he cannot be trusted nor relied on because their house sways from side to side. There are no beams to hold up the house, nor sheetrock strong enough to battle the buffeting winds and storms, nor durable walls and appropriate roofing material.
The foundation for the house serves as the vital connection to a stable base, preventing displacement and maintaining the structure's position. A house anchor is a large bolt or fastener designed to connect the building's walls to the foundation. This process is called anchoring. And just as an anchor keeps a boat in place during a storm, so does a house anchor keep in place our heart, our faith, our trust and our love for the Lord.
Just how durable is a house anchored to a rock that for years has lived through storms? Imagine our heart as the housing for our love for God, our life. His Spirit. How sturdy is the foundation anchored to the Holy Spirit who with definite Scripture and the Word, can keep us in place, confident that no wrong, no evil, no storm can dislodge us from the Holy Hands of the Lord, His spoken Word.
