Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening, and he was greatly perplexed because some were saying, “John has been raised from the dead”; others were saying, “Elijah has appeared”; still others, “One of the ancient prophets has arisen.” But Herod said, “John I beheaded. Who then is this about whom I hear such things? ”And he kept trying to see him.
REFLECTION
"Who then is this about whom I hear such things?"
Herod saw Jesus as a "spectacle" and this curiosity alone does not lead him to faith.
Dealing with his troubled conscience, having beheaded John the Baptist, he was filled with anxiety, perhaps even superstition, worries and bewilderment.
Today Archbishop Fulton Sheen will be beatified. In his book, "Life of Christ", he presents Jesus not just as a great teacher, miracle worker or political historical figure. He leads us toward the mystery of Christ as the Son of God who came to this world to save us.
Part of knowing someone is to allow them into our lives. We can read about Jesus, study Scripture and know facts, attend Mass, Adoration, participate in Church activities and yet still keep Jesus at a safe distance.
The life of Christ always points us towards the Cross and the Resurrection, showing us the depth of His love. We are personally called by Jesus into a new life with Him.

Let us pray that when we ask "Who then is this about whom I hear such things?", we surrender all to Him, and let Him be the center of our lives, therefore allowing Him to transform us.
