Jesus said to his disciples: “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished! Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three; a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father, a mother against her daughter and a daughter against her mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”
REFLECTION
Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth?
St Anthony Mary Claret had the gift of preaching. Archbishop of Santiago, Cuba and confessor of Queen Isabella II, he preached sometimes seven to ten homilies per day. Many were converted. This giant of a man (5 feet tall) was on fire for the Lord. The Holy Spirit worked through him. St Anthony Claret said, “I am just a horn, someone else is doing the blowing”.
We have been told by the Lord that He did not come to establish peace on earth but rather division. So when neighbors, kin folk, friends, and family disagree with our beliefs, or the teachings of the Catholic Church, be a giant in defending the faith, the Eucharist, the commandments, our Mother.
The Holy Spirit will speak in and for us as we allow Him to set us on fire for the Word.
