Gospel John 14:27-31a
Jesus said to his disciples: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. You heard me tell you,'I am going away and I will come back to you.'If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father; for the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you this before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe. I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world is coming. He has no power over me, but the world must know that I love the Father and that I do just as the Father has commanded me."
REFLECTION
Jesus is preparing to leave and He wants His disciples to be happy that He is returning to His Father.
It was hard for the disciples to believe that Jesus rose from the dead. He has been appearing to them for almost 40 days, and yet this seems incredulous. He let Thomas put his finger into the wounds of His hands and his hand into Jesus' side. He even ate in front of them. Now they are getting used to being with Him and so He tells them what will happen in the near future. He will leave and go to His Father.
Why is it important for the world to know that Jesus loves God the Father and that He, Jesus, died out of love for humanity? Because this was the Father's salvific plan to bring mankind back to their original state in the Garden of Eden. This was the Father's love for His Creatures/Humanity and Jesus is one with God the Father and the Holy Spirit.
God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit all live with the same Divine Will. Their Divine Will is to live in love with all creation and that the primary creature/man will love the Trinity. Humans will love the Trinity with their whole heart, mind and soul in Their Divine Will.
The ultimate purpose of creation is that God "who is creator of all things may at last become 'all in all,' thus simultaneously assuring his own glory and our beatitude." 1 Cor. 15:28 CCC 294
