Gospel Mt 18:1-5, 10, 12-14

The disciples approached Jesus and said,

“Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven?”

He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said,

“Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children,

you will not enter the Kingdom of heaven.

Whoever becomes humble like this child

is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.

And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.

“See that you do not despise one of these little ones,

for I say to you that their angels in heaven

always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.

What is your opinion?

If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray,

will he not leave the ninety-nine in the hills

and go in search of the stray?

And if he finds it, amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it

than over the ninety-nine that did not stray.

In just the same way, it is not the will of your heavenly Father

that one of these little ones be lost.”

REFLECTION

"...In just the same way, it is not the will of your heavenly Father

that one of these little ones be lost.”

What is the legacy of this generation? The legacy we pass onto our children are the moral values we teach them. Our values can be positive or negative. If they are positive and they influence others by living those values then this is good.

Jesus is reminding us that we are responsible for what we teach our children. If we teach them to be kind, patient, and generous in dealing with their neighbors then these values are in line with God's moral values. This will promote peace and unity. But if we teach them to be bullies, impatient, and stingy then we are promoting conflict and ill will. Jesus says that we are not doing His heavenly Father's Will and those children will be lost. If this happens then we need to find that child and bring them back to God's moral values.

How do we bring them back? We need to be humble and ask God to help us because we cannot bring back the ones who have been misled. We need His Spiritual Help.

Let us pray the Novena to St. Michael the Archangel to help protect our children.
