Tuesday of the Seventh Week of Ordinary Time

Gospel Mk 9:30-37

Jesus and his disciples left from there and began a journey through Galilee, but he did not wish anyone to know about it. He was teaching his disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man is to be handed over to men and they will kill him, and three days after his death the Son of Man will rise.”But they did not understand the saying, and they were afraid to question him.

They came to Capernaum and, once inside the house, he began to ask them, “What were you arguing about on the way?”But they remained silent. For they had been discussing among themselves on the way who was the greatest. Then he sat down, called the Twelve, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to be first,   he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.” Taking a child, he placed it in their midst, and putting his arms around it, he said to them, “Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but the One who sent me.”

REFLECTION

The apostles were asking one another, "Who is the greatest among the twelve?"

Jesus settled the argument by saying, “If anyone wishes to be first,   he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.”

People today act more entitled to things, services, and positions. Everyone wants to be considered first.

Mother Theresa of Kolkuta, now known as St. Theresa of Calcutta, started an order of Nuns whose mission is to "Convey God's love, a living God, a loving God," to all those they encounter. They serve the poorest of the poor and anyone rejected by society.

The Missionaries of Charity live a life of poverty and simplicity. They do not wear any jewelry. They wear a cotton sari and carry a cloth bag for a purse. When they serve the poor, sick, or orphaned, they never eat or drink in front of them.

They do not have bank accounts. They use the cheapest transportation to the people they serve and they pray the rosary while traveling. They live in a community and sleep in one room. In their house one room has an altar and a tabernacle with Jesus present. This is where they pray and adore the Lord.

They live the Gospel by traveling by twos and serve everyone as if he or she were Jesus.

The Missionaries of Charity think of themselves last and servants for all those in need.

Let us pray for all Priests and Catholics to do God's Will and serve others selflessly.

Let us pray for the Holy Spirit to guide us to do God's Will.
