A Gospel according to Jn 16:5-11
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Now I am going to the one who sent me,
and not one of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’
But because I told you this, grief has filled your hearts.
But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go.
For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you.
But if I go, I will send him to you.
And when he comes he will convict the world
in regard to sin and righteousness and condemnation:
sin, because they do not believe in me;
righteousness, because I am going to the Father
and you will no longer see me;
condemnation, because the ruler of this world has been condemned.”
REFLECTION
"If I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you."
Easter is almost over. A few more days and it will be Ascension Thursday. A little bit further, and Pentecost will be upon us.
During Lent, we made some sacrifices and tried to learn better habits. Have we carried what we learned during Lent into Easter?
Just the same, has the joy of Easter Sunday dwindled and are we getting caught by the daily grind?
Let us start preparing ourselves for the gift of the Holy Spirit by praying this beautiful prayer by St. Augustine:
COME, HOLY SPIRIT
By St. Augustine
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful; And kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created; And, You shall renew the face of the earth. Breathe into me, O Holy Spirit; That all my thoughts may be holy. Move in me, O Holy Spirit; That my work, too, may be holy. Attract my heart, O Holy Spirit; That I may love only what is holy. Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit; That I may defend all that is holy. Protect me, O Holy Spirit; That I always may be holy. Let us pray: O God, * who by the light of the Holy Spirit, * did instruct the hearts of the faithful, * grant that by the same Holy Spirit * we may be truly wise * and ever enjoy His consolations. * Through Christ, Our Lord. * Amen.
